Head and neck cancer refers to tumors that occur in the lining of the nose, mouth (oral cancer) or throat, as well as cancers of the thyroid, parathyroid and salivary glands. Doctors also include advanced skin cancers of the head and neck (scalp, ears, face and neck) in this category of cancers.
If detected early, most head and neck cancers can be cured with surgery or radiation therapy.
Rehabilitation is vital after surgery for head and neck cancer to help patients reach their full potential, and often includes speech therapy, swallowing rehabilitation and dental and maxillofacial rehabilitation.
